Advice for Cardiovascular Testing
Statins are commonly prescribed to help manage cholesterol and reduce cardiovascular risk. Regular monitoring is an important part of statin treatment, both before starting and at intervals afterwards, to check that cholesterol levels are responding as expected and that the liver is tolerating the medication well.
Our Statin Panel checks two key areas:
- Lipid Profile, covering your cholesterol levels, including LDL, HDL, and triglycerides
- Liver Function Test, since statins are processed by the liver and can occasionally affect liver enzymes
Testing gives you and your prescriber a clear, up to date picture, whether you're establishing a baseline before starting treatment or checking in during ongoing statin use.
Choose from two convenient at-home collection methods:
- Finger Prick Kit a quick, simple sample taken from your fingertip
- Tasso / Autodraw Kit a needle-free device applied to your upper arm that gently draws a blood sample
Both collection methods are analysed to the same laboratory standard. Your results are reviewed by our clinical team and made available securely online.
Cardiovascular Testing FAQs (8)
Statins work by lowering cholesterol, so monitoring your Lipid Profile shows whether treatment is having the intended effect. Liver Function Tests are included because statins are processed by the liver, and checking liver enzymes helps confirm the medication is being well tolerated.
Yes, a baseline Statin Panel is often recommended before starting treatment, so your prescriber has a clear starting point for your cholesterol and liver function.
Monitoring frequency depends on your individual treatment plan. Your prescriber will advise on how often retesting is recommended for you.
This test measures your Lipid Profile (including cholesterol and triglyceride levels) and your Liver Function, giving a combined view of how your body is responding to, or preparing for, statin treatment.
Both use the same lab analysis, so your results are equally reliable. Finger Prick uses a small lancet on your fingertip. Tasso uses a small device on your upper arm that gently draws a liquid blood sample without a finger prick, which some people find more comfortable.
Fasting can affect some lipid results, particularly triglycerides. We recommend fasting overnight (water is fine) where possible, but check with our clinical team if you have any specific concerns.
Results are typically available within a few working days after your sample reaches the lab.
Not necessarily. This test is designed to support your ongoing care, but you should continue any monitoring recommended by your GP or specialist alongside this service, unless your prescriber advises otherwise.
