1 FAQs

Diabetes is a chronic condition that occurs when the body either does not produce enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Insulin is a hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar levels. Diabetes can lead to elevated blood glucose levels, known as hyperglycaemia, which can cause various health complications if left unmanaged.

Advice for Tablets

Discover everything you need to know about diabetes, including types, symptoms, diagnosis methods, treatment options, prevention strategies, and relevant references. Gain insights into managing diabetes effectively, obtaining accurate diagnoses, and implementing preventive measures.

There are three main types of diabetes: type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body's immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Type 2 diabetes is a progressive condition where the body becomes resistant to insulin or does not produce enough of it. Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy and usually resolves after childbirth, but it increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
