Invicorp

Category:Erectile Dysfunction Injectables

Invicorp is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It contains two active ingredients, phentolamine and aviptadil, which work together to increase blood flow to the penis, causing an erection. Phentolamine is a vasodilator that relaxes blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily, while aviptadil is a synthetic form of a naturally occurring hormone called vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), which also helps to dilate blood vessels and improve blood flow.

Frequently Asked Questions for Invicorp

What is Invicorp?

Invicorp is administered by injection into the base of the penis, typically 5-20 minutes before sexual activity. It is generally considered to be safe and effective, but as with all medications, it can cause side effects such as pain at the injection site, dizziness, and flushing. Invicorp is only available by prescription and should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare provider.

How do I use invicorp?

Invicorp is a medication that is administered by injection into the base of the penis. It should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare provider who can give you detailed instructions on how to use it properly.

Here are some general guidelines for using Invicorp:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the injection.
  2. Prepare the injection by mixing the contents of two vials, one containing phentolamine and the other containing aviptadil. Follow the instructions provided with the medication carefully.
  3. Use an alcohol swab to clean the injection site at the base of the penis.
  4. Using the syringe provided with the medication, inject the mixture into the side of the penis, near the base. Avoid injecting into the top or bottom of the penis.
  5. Apply pressure to the injection site for a few minutes to help prevent bleeding.
  6. Wait at least 5-20 minutes for the medication to take effect before attempting sexual activity.

It's important to note that Invicorp should not be used more than once in a 24-hour period, and you should never use more than the prescribed dose. Also, do not use Invicorp if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or if you have certain medical conditions such as a history of priapism (prolonged erection), penile fibrosis, or leukemia.

How Does Invicorp Work?

Invicorp's two active ingredients work through complementary mechanisms to produce an erection.

Aviptadil is a synthetic analogue of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), a naturally occurring neuropeptide. When injected into the erectile tissue, it causes smooth muscle relaxation and vasodilation, increasing arterial blood flow into the penis.

Phentolamine mesilate is an alpha-adrenoceptor antagonist. It blocks the receptors responsible for constricting penile blood vessels, reducing venous outflow and sustaining the erection.

Together, these two mechanisms produce a firmer, longer-lasting erection than either ingredient would achieve alone. Because Invicorp acts locally within the penile tissue rather than through the bloodstream, it works independently of sexual stimulation to a significant degree, though arousal can enhance its effect. An erection typically begins within 5 to 10 minutes of injection and lasts approximately 30 to 60 minutes.

Invicorp vs Oral ED Treatment - Which is Right for You?

Both injectable Invicorp and oral PDE5 inhibitors can effectively treat erectile dysfunction, but they work through different mechanisms and suit different patients.

Invicorp injection:

  1. Injected directly into penile tissue - acts locally, not systemically
  2. Works independently of sexual stimulation
  3. No significant interaction risk via systemic circulation
  4. Suitable whether or not oral ED treatments have been tried
  5. Effective across vascular, neurogenic, and psychogenic causes of ED
  6. Onset: 5 to 10 minutes; duration: approximately 30 to 60 minutes
  7. Requires training in self-injection technique

Oral PDE5 inhibitors (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil):

  1. Taken by mouth and distributed through the bloodstream
  2. Require sexual stimulation to produce an erection
  3. Drug interaction profile includes nitrates, certain antihypertensives, and others
  4. First-line treatment for most men with ED
  5. Well tolerated in most men with no contraindications

When Invicorp may be the better choice:

  1. You prefer not to take oral medication
  2. Oral ED treatments are contraindicated due to other medications or health conditions
  3. Oral treatments have not produced a satisfactory response
  4. You have ED with a neurological component (for example, following prostate surgery or with diabetes-related neuropathy)
  5. You have previously used alprostadil and found it did not work well enough
  6. You require a reliable, on-demand erection without dependence on oral absorption

Your prescriber will advise which treatment is most clinically appropriate based on your presentation and medical history.

Who is Invicorp Suitable For?

Invicorp is appropriate for adult men with erectile dysfunction, including:

  1. Men who prefer an injectable treatment over oral tablets
  2. Men who cannot take oral PDE5 inhibitors due to contraindications or drug interactions
  3. Men who have tried oral treatments without a satisfactory response
  4. Men with diabetes-related erectile dysfunction
  5. Men with neurogenic ED (for example, following spinal cord injury or prostate surgery)
  6. Men who have used alprostadil and found it insufficiently effective
  7. Men with mixed-aetiology ED involving both vascular and neurogenic components

Invicorp is not suitable if you:

  1. Are allergic to aviptadil, phentolamine mesilate, or any other ingredient in the preparation
  2. Have conditions associated with a risk of priapism, including sickle cell anaemia, leukaemia, or multiple myeloma
  3. Have a penile implant
  4. Have significant penile anatomical deformity (for example, Peyronie's disease with significant curvature)

Use with caution if you:

  1. Are taking anticoagulants - discuss with your prescriber before use
  2. Have a history of prolonged erection (priapism)
  3. Have cardiovascular disease - sexual activity itself may carry risk, which your prescriber will assess
  4. Have diabetes - injection site care requires additional attention

Our online consultation will assess your presentation and medical history before any prescription is issued.

Side Effects of Invicorp

Invicorp is generally well tolerated when used correctly. Most side effects are localised to the injection site.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  1. Pain or discomfort at the injection site during or after injection - usually mild and short-lived
  2. Prolonged erection lasting longer than two to three hours - seek medical attention if the erection lasts more than four hours

Uncommon:

  1. Bruising or haematoma at the injection site
  2. Mild penile swelling or redness at the injection site
  3. Penile fibrosis (scar tissue formation) with prolonged or frequent use - correct injection technique and regular review reduce this risk

Rare:

  1. Priapism (painful erection lasting more than four hours) - a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment
  2. Hypotension (low blood pressure) - more likely at higher doses

Systemic side effects are uncommon because Invicorp acts locally. However, some absorption into the systemic circulation can occur.

Seek urgent medical attention if you develop an erection lasting more than four hours, even if it is not painful. Treatment must be initiated promptly to avoid permanent damage.

Warnings and Precautions

  1. Do not inject more than once in a 24-hour period, and no more than three times per week
  2. Do not combine Invicorp with other ED treatments, including oral PDE5 inhibitors or vacuum devices, without specific medical guidance
  3. Store Invicorp as directed - typically refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C. Once the ampoule is opened, use immediately and discard any remaining solution
  4. Keep out of reach of children
  5. Dispose of used needles safely in a sharps container
  6. Use a new needle for every injection
  7. Do not share your Invicorp with anyone else - it has been prescribed for you specifically
  8. Inform your prescriber if you notice any changes to the shape of your penis, persistent pain, or skin changes at injection sites
